News From the Classroom 10-19-12

Our Continents Song
In Reading, we read Beth's Boots. She grew out of her old boots and so her friends tried lending their boots.  They were too big, too small, too wet, too soft, or too thin. In the end, they bought her a pair of new red boots.- Emma   We reread the story to partners for read to someone in Daily 5.- Tatiana

In Writers Workshop, we watched a movie called, 'Arthur Writes a Story' and read a book, Three By The Sea.  Then we wrote our own stories with beginning, middle, and ends. - Charlie
Mrs. Lang told a story about Margaret and her cousin Lonie and the chicken house. It was really funny! Then we retold the story with a beginning, middle, and end. - Isabel

In Math, we used number lines to count up and back. - Francesca   We did Jack-o-lantern math.  We chose eyes, nose, and mouths. Each were worth different values.  We added the three numbers and wrote the number model on a ghost.  They are on our bulletin board in our classroom.- Sonia   We played Coin Top-it with partners.- Isabel

We worked in our continents booklets. - Tatiana   Asia is the biggest continent and Australia is the smallest continent.- Khaila    We made compass roses. We remember the directions by saying this saying, "Never Eat Soggy Waffles".- Hersh  We recorded our Continents song and even made it into a rap!-  Khaila

In Library, we had a library call number hunt.- Julian   We assembled a world map on the white board, too.-  Jonah

We made 3-D Jack-o-lanterns.  We used strips of paper and fasteners.  They are up in the front of our classroom.-  Charley

Thank you for all of the well wishes for my mom's surgery! Everything went well and I am glad to be back!
