May 31,2013

We have been so busy these past few weeks. It is just impossible to think that there are only 2 1/2 days left! We read the remainder of the stories in our reading book, completed Unit 10 in Math, which was a review of math skills, and completed our animal research and even wrote a 4 paragraph paper. Mrs. Fuller visited our classroom where we shared a little of what we learned about the rain forest. A few children read their research papers and Animal Cinquain poems.  The class even shared a class book that we wrote called If You Give A Lizard A Leaf. Mrs. Fuller read a story to the class before our day ended. She enjoyed her visit! We also were excited to have Mrs. Michels come and give her expertise with our culminating Spring Season activity. Mrs. Michels took photos of each of the children in a pose that would be found in Spring and then the children could choose any medium to demonstrate their understanding of the signs of Spring. Most enjoyed the use of 3-D shapes. Their Seasons movies will be posted soon for you to view!  The children brought in many good items and our White Elephant Sale was a huge success! We made $100 in our class alone toward the donation to the Rainforest Alliance. We are busy learning right up to the vey last day:) I just don't want to admit the school year is ending.

Monday and Tuesday the children can wear play clothes and tennis shoes. It would be wise to put sun screen on in the morning before school. You can send sunscreen in their backpacks to reapply before field day if you wish. (Make sure you children know, as I will not be checking backpacks.) You can send a water bottle to use during field day. Both days the children need to bring their own lunches. Please still plan for snack both days. Monday is a picnic lunch with parents and siblings. Tuesday if our Reading Adventure Outdoor Fun party for first graders and teachers, we will also fly home from The Amazon Rain Forest of Brazil. Wednesday the children come in their uniforms for our final good-bye. Dismissal is at 11:30. The children will receive their First Grade Scrapbook filled with photos and samples of work from our year.

Please make sure your child brings a backpack to school all three days. I will be sending things home each day.
